It’s not always easy, running a successful business. You want to achieve so much, and it can be incredibly frustrating when you don’t get the results you want. But once you’ve taken a look at all the tools and tech that may be to blame and are still drawing a blank, it may be time to ask yourself – are you holding your business back from the success it deserves?
You’ll be surprised at how common it is for business owners to be the bottleneck in their own business. I know I’ve been guilty of it too! So if you’re worried you may be the issue and are looking to achieve your goals and generally learn how to live more and let go, here are some clarifying questions to ponder on.
Is your management style holding your business back?
This is a common issue, especially for new or inexperienced business owners. But the good news is it’s relatively easy to remedy. If you’re wondering if your management style is holding your business back, here are 3 things to check:
- Are you micromanaging others?
- Are you making all the decisions yourself and not letting your team take responsibility for their part?
- Do you feel like you don’t have any time to grow and train a team?

Are you resisting change in your business?
Your business needs space to evolve. Often, evolution also involves change – and it’s this that many fear. But change is a good thing, as it helps you streamline and improve your systems, processes and results.
If you’re seeing congestion in productivity and forward momentum, it’s often a sign that you’re resisting implementing the changes needed to grow your business.
Another common area is tech. Are you avoiding implementing (or using better) systems and automation in your business? There’s no way to increase productivity, respond faster and grow faster without improving and automating as much as you can. Systems can be documented, trackable and scalable – making them essential to your success.
Is success something you’re too impatient to achieve?
Understandably, you may be impatient to achieve success. But this can lead to problems and, ultimately, hold your business back.
How? It most commonly shows up in 2 different ways. Number one – you keep coming up with new ideas and want to implement them all now. And number two, you’re implementing things but not giving them time to be measured, tracked and improved.
As a simple yet effective way to manage this, write all those potential new ideas down – but stick to implementing only one at a time. Give yourself a minimum of 90 days to go all-in on that one thing before reviewing the results and deciding on your next steps.
Is your business too dependent on you – or you on it?
Finally, you could be holding your business back because you care too much. It’s good to want success and do what’s needed to achieve it – but you need a life too!
You can have a business and also have a life – it’s not an either-or scenario.
If you’re working all the available hours you have, that’s not good for you, and there’s also a high chance you’ll get substandard results too. So how about looking to factor in sensible working patterns so that you can spend time away from your desk?
Also, look to start growing a team. Hiring a VA is a good starting point. You can outsource some of your task list and get some much-needed help and support.
